We make orthodontic care fun, friendly, and personalized—because every child deserves a confident smile they can grow into.

Why Should I Choose Braces for My Child?

Braces do more than just straighten teeth—they set the foundation for lifelong oral health. For children with crowding, bite issues, or early signs of misalignment, orthodontic treatment can guide jaw development, improve speech and chewing function, and boost confidence during key developmental years.

At SmileWorks Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, our team combines pediatric expertise with a gentle, personalized approach to orthodontics. We create custom treatment plans designed to suit your child’s age, growth stage, and comfort level. Whether your child is ready for traditional braces or needs an early evaluation, we’re here to make the journey smooth, stress-free, and even a little fun.

Benefits of Braces

Customized Care for Every Smile

No two kids are alike—and neither are their braces. We tailor each treatment plan based on your child’s unique dental development and goals for a beautifully aligned, functional smile.

Improved Long-Term Oral Health

By correcting bite issues and crowding early, braces can prevent more serious problems later in life, such as tooth wear, jaw pain, or difficulty cleaning hard-to-reach areas.

Supportive & Encouraging Environment

From colorful bands to high-fives after every appointment, our team works hard to keep kids motivated and proud of their progress.

The Braces Process

1

Orthodontic Evaluation

We start with a comprehensive orthodontic assessment, which may include digital X-rays, photographs, and a 3D scan of your child’s teeth. This lets us see how their teeth and jaw are developing and spot any issues with spacing, bite alignment, or crowding. Even if your child isn’t ready for treatment right away, these early insights allow us to plan the right care at the right time.

2

Personalized Treatment Planning

Once we’ve reviewed your child’s diagnostic information, we’ll create a custom treatment plan. We’ll walk you through the recommended type of braces, estimated treatment time, and how we’ll support your child’s comfort and progress throughout. We also use this time to answer any questions and talk through lifestyle tips—like what foods to avoid and how to keep teeth clean with braces.

3

Getting Braces On

When your child is ready, we’ll carefully place the braces during a relaxed, supportive visit. This involves bonding brackets to the teeth and connecting them with a thin archwire that gently guides the teeth into place over time. Our team explains each step in kid-friendly terms, and we take time to make the experience positive—some kids even get to pick out fun band colors!

4

Progress Visits & Adjustments

Regular visits (usually every 4–8 weeks) are essential to monitor your child’s progress and make necessary adjustments. At each visit, we’ll check how the teeth are moving, replace wires or bands if needed, and ensure everything is on track. These visits are quick and encouraging, and we love celebrating small wins along the way. We’re also available between appointments if questions or concerns come up.

5

Removing Braces & Retention

When treatment is complete and your child’s smile is perfectly aligned, we’ll carefully remove the braces and reveal their new look! To protect the results, we’ll provide a custom retainer and instructions for wearing it. This final phase helps maintain the progress we’ve made and keeps your child smiling with confidence for years to come.

FAQs

Have questions? We've got answers.

Still have questions?
When should my child see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial orthodontic evaluation around age 7. At this age, we can spot issues with jaw growth, spacing, and bite alignment—even if braces aren’t needed right away. Early evaluations allow us to guide growth and plan ahead for the best outcomes.

How long will my child need to wear braces?

Treatment length varies based on your child’s age, dental development, and the complexity of their case. Most kids wear braces for 18–24 months. We’ll give you a clear estimate during your consultation and keep you updated throughout the journey.

Do braces hurt?

It’s normal for children to feel some soreness after getting braces or adjustments, but this typically fades within a few days. We’ll offer tips for relief and are always here if your child has concerns or discomfort.
